Anti-Jewish Legislation

Paula Salomon-Lindberg was one of the first in Charlotte's family to experience the abrupt reality when she was forced to leave the stage. A Nazi in the audience rose and shouted 'Raus' at her, because she was a Jewish singer.

Recalling this degrading experience, Charlotte painted a scene where Paula is attacked on stage, when the audience shrieks 'Raus' at the crescendo of an aria she is singing.

We read about the prohibitive measures that made the daily life of the Jewish considerably more difficult. The impact of the anti-Jewish legislation was huge.

  • I think it's so sad that people judge you before they know you. Ok, Paulinka was Jewish, but didn't she have a great voice? Wasn't she a great singer? At that time, people saw 'a Jew', that was it, a Jew=bad, evil. Isn't that sad? That people thought like that, they thought that people were bad before they even started to know them. On the other hand, in our culture, a lot of people do the same thing. You see a migrant and you think he's a thief, even though it could be the nicest person. Our you can't stand someone in your own class because (s)he doesn't say a lot, because (s)he's more introvert than you are. Isn't that a problem that always have been here and always will be? Isn't that sad?

  • That wouldn't mean that you have to kill 'them' and try to breed 'them'all out.
    I absolutely hate superficial people!

  • That's true...their is still a big difference between having prejudices and killing them...
Two years ago, I went to Auschwitz and what I saw their was just unbelievable, my mind coudn't reach it...how can people be so cruel?
