Three-cornered relationship Charlotte-Daberlohn-Paulinka

(pictures are used for educational purpose only)

Paulinka and Daberlohn, the man who had a relationship with both Paulinka and Charlotte, leave the house. With a lot of pain in her heart Charlotte noticed how they disappeared into the night… This post is about the relationship between Charlotte and Daberlohn. At first they had a student-teacher relationship but very soon it became a love relationship. I think the affaire was very painful for Charlotte because she knew that he had a relationship with her stepmother.
All the lies she had to tell, the discussions she had with Daberlohn,… In our opinion a sad story, but what do you think about such a relationship?

  • It is certainly a sad story, especially for Charlotte. It is very strong and brave of her she paints all this.
How did it come that paulinka and Daberlohn started a relationship?

  • I think it must be very difficult knowing you are not the only love in a person's life. Such a relationship leads to isolation.
It may sound easy: no promises, no demands but could you share the love of your life with another person? I couln't. I believe in the quote: love is a battlefield. I would fight for my love. This is something I miss in Charlotte's reaction towards Daberlohn. She's so madly in love with him. She does everthing for him, she even goes to bed with him, but every time he deserts her again and pushes her away. Het is a egoistic 'womanizer' but Charlotte doesn't realize what he is doing.
    Love really makes one blind.

  • I think it's so sad, knowing that Charlotte only was in love with person in her whole life, that she never cared about anyone so much, and that he didn't care, that he was in love with two persons, that he maybe didn't really love Charlotte at all. I couldn't give my heart to a person who did that, my mind can't reach it.

  • i think it's sad for both paulinka and charlotte... and daberlohn is an asswhole... :s he already has his fiancée but that's not enough for him. He also wants paulinka and charlotte... who knows who's next?? of course it's not nice that paulinka cheats on her husband, but yeah, she's in love... and i think it's the most sad thing for charlotte... she doesn't has anyone else... daberlohn is the one and only for her... and it's hard i guess if you love the lover of your (step)mom... :s

  • With who was Daberlohn really in love than? Was it all fake or did he really love one our more of the women he pretended to love...Did he really care about all of them?

  • This is complicated, especially for Charlotte. I don't think Daberlohn was really in love with her. It's like he's using her. You can't be in love with two persons at the same time? This must be hard for Charlotte, because she gives herself to him, knowing he isn't only hers.

  • Perhaps you can be in love with two persons at the same time. But I think there will always be a difference, a degradation. In fact he needs these two totally different women to fulfill his own needs. There is the physical attraction and there is the fact that women bring him to a higher artistic level.
