The Kiss?

(pictures are used for educational purpose only)

In this post we compare a painting from Gustav Klimt and Marc Chagall with a gouache of Charlotte. Would you like to be kissed by Daberlohn or by the man in the painting of Gustav Klimt?

  • I would definitely like to be kissed by the man in the Klimt painting. This is passion! This embrace is real not fake! I can feel the love of this man for his beloved! It seems that Charlotte knows that something is wrong. I think that might be the reason why she has painted the figures in dark colours

  • The first kiss looks like your imagination, how you would want it. The second is like in a dream, it doesn't look normal, the colours are strange, almost like in space. The last one looks like a real tender kiss. The love bumps into my computerscreen ;-)
If I'd choose one, I'd pick the second, because it's beyond my imagination, you don't have any limits, you're allowed to have it, doesn't matter how you want it.

  • They don't show the faces of the persons in the gouache of Charlotte Salomon, you can't see if it's real love our if it's fake. Charlotte doesn't know what she really means to Daberlohn. It seems like they are in love, but if you look closer, you can really see that there is something wrong.

  • I agree with Moesj about Charlotte's gouache.
Just like Dark Tears I'd prefer the kiss in Chagall's painting, because of the same reasons: it's beyond imagination.

  • I would like a kiss to be romantic, in these pictures you can't see much of the landscape, so you can't really put yourself in their situation

  • The kiss. I like the kiss you put on your blog. That moment of hesitation between the decision (almost taken subconsciously) to kiss and the kiss as such. The proximity of the other person's face blotting out your eyesight. Everything becomes blurry and you surrender.

  • I really don't like Chagall's work, I think it's very non-realistic and dreamy, not daring to face the truth. But I do love Klimt's painting, because of its magnificent colours and patterns..
The posture in Klimt's and Charlotte's painting are very similar and in my opinion there's an empty background because if they kiss (wether they are in love or not) the whole world disappears!
Everybody knows that Charlotte really is in love, but I think it's very easy for a teen-girl to fall in love for a man who gives them assurance, has a lot of experience with woman, and is very intellectual... And I also doubt the honesty of Daberlohn. Probably we'll never know Daberlohn's thoughts...
